This 10-day circuit takes you across the country from south to north, passing through its most unspoilt areas. A journey designed to blend effort with comfort, exploration with relaxation, adrenaline with contemplation.
Stage 1: Santo Domingo, the Colonial Capital
Your Dominican adventure begins in the oldest colonial city on the continent, where you settle in for a first urban and historical immersion. Your English-speaking guide takes you to discover the Zona Colonial (UNESCO-listed) by bike, far from tourist coaches, through cobbled alleyways and along the malecón (seafront promenade).
The afternoon is free to catch a baseball match (the true national sport), stroll through the markets, or sip a chinola juice on a café terrace. A perfect introduction to Dominican culture!
Stage 2: Jarabacoa, Hiking, Waterfalls and White-Water Rafting in the Wild
After the city, head for the mountains! You collect your hire car and drive to Jarabacoa, ‘the city of eternal spring’, perched in the mountains of the Cordillera Central. This is where the Dominican Republic reveals its green, fresh and wild side
You hike to the spectacular Jimenoa waterfalls, one of which served as a location for the film Jurassic Park. The following day brings the adrenaline: a white-water rafting descent on the Yaque del Norte river, the longest in the country. All of this from the comfort of a premium eco-lodge with mountain views, private jacuzzi and barbecue!
Stage 3: Jamao al Norte, Rural Immersion and Camping Night with a Local Family
A change of scene: head for the rural north for a timeless moment in a village perched in the heart of the hills. You visit an organic cacao farm, make your own chocolate bar, lunch at a local comedor, then join a Dominican family for a night under canvas, around a campfire. This kind of encounter, rare and precious, often remains the highlight of this circuit for our travellers.
The following morning, choose your adventure: canyoning, kayaking or tubing on the Rio Blanco depending on your energy levels. Adrenaline and spectacular scenery guaranteed!
Stage 4: Cabarete, Relaxation or Kitesurfing by the Ocean
After the mountain adventure, back to the ocean. You reach Cabarete: a laid-back, alternative beachside village beloved by surfers worldwide. The vibe is bohemian and relaxed. You stay in a charming eco-lodge steps from the sea.
Here the choice is yours: a lazy day of beach, pool, massage or yoga… or, for the more active, a kitesurfing lesson in Cabarete Bay with a certified instructor.
Stage 5: Las Galeras & Playa Frontón, Adventure by the Sea
You then follow the sublime northern coast of the island, stopping for lunch with your feet in the sand and discovering secret beaches. You settle in at Las Galeras, an isolated village surrounded by jungle and fringed by the ocean. In season (January to March), you can even watch humpback whales from your eco-lodge without leaving your bed.
The following day brings a boat excursion to Playa Frontón, a wild beach accessible only by sea. On the programme: snorkelling, a beach barbecue and the exploration of Playa Madame and Playa Rincón, ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world.
