The following day, you head for the unforgettable Island of Saona: a natural jewel listed as a national park. You board a private sailboat and glide on the wind towards this little corner of paradise. Between white sand beaches, snorkelling in translucent waters and hidden coves, you savour the easy Caribbean way of life. On board, a chef introduces you to local flavours with a typical lunch, while the captain shares the secrets of these waters. A day outside of time, before returning to your hotel for a free evening.

But this circuit is about far more than sea and sunshine. On the third day, you leave Bayahibe for a fascinating immersion in the world of tobacco and rum: the country’s true emblems. You visit the world’s largest cigar factory, where passionate craftsmen perpetuate a unique expertise. Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta… names that set aficionados dreaming across the globe take on their full meaning here. After a Dominican lunch, you discover the Barceló distillery, famous for its premium rum and its traditional production process. By early evening you arrive in Santo Domingo, the historic capital, and settle into the heart of the Zona Colonial, the cradle of Dominican history.

The Historical and Colonial Richness of the Dominican Republic

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Zona Colonial of Santo Domingo is a genuine open-air museum. Cobbled alleyways, colourful colonial façades, animated squares… every street corner tells a story.

Your fourth day plunges you into an offbeat guided tour of the capital: from the spectacular natural site of Los Tres Ojos to the Lighthouse of Christopher Columbus, including a ride on a cable car offering a panoramic view over the city, you discover an unexpected face of Santo Domingo. After a stroll through the colonial centre and a moment of relaxation at the hotel, your evening takes an elegant turn: dinner and a cigar at one of the capital’s finest cigar clubs, for a total immersion in the Dominican art de vivre.

Unforgettable Encounters with the Local People

Beyond the landscapes and monuments, this circuit opens the doors of Dominican daily life. You head to San Francisco de Macorís – the cacao capital – where you follow the complete chocolate production process, from the organic plantation through to the chocolate bar you make yourselves. A typical lunch of la bandera (the Dominican national dish) awaits you, followed by a visit to the Mirabal Sisters Museum, symbols of the struggle against the dictatorship. The day ends in a guesthouse with a local family in Moca, for a total immersion in local culture.

The following day, the spotlight falls on coffee with a guided tasting led by passionate producers. Then comes a traditional pottery workshop and the chance to create the celebrated Muñeca Sin Rostro (the faceless doll), the country’s emblematic craft figure. This cultural stage concludes in Santiago de los Caballeros, the economic capital, where you discover the Heroes’ Monument, the old town and its colourful street art.

Tobacco, Rum and Craftsmanship: An Authentic Dominican Immersion

The final part of the circuit is devoted to unique artisan expertise. You visit a cigar plantation at Jicome to understand the link between the land, tobacco cultivation and the art of the cigar. After lunch in town, you discover an iconic factory and learn the art of rolling your own cigar with master craftsmen.

In the evening – the perfect way to close this journey – you take part in an exclusive tasting of the three great Dominican rums (Brugal, Barceló and Bermúdez) paired with carefully selected cigars. A convivial and refined moment, perfect for reflecting on all the experiences lived throughout this circuit.
