CANCÚN - VALLADOLID: Visit to Puerto Morelos village

This morning you collect your hire car: your Mexico road trip begins! Head for the charming colonial city of Valladolid, around 2 hours from Cancún. Along the way, make a detour through Puerto Morelos: a peaceful little fishing village facing the Caribbean Sea.

VALLADOLID - MÉRIDA: Chichén Itzá and Izamal

Today, head for Mérida, around 2 hours' drive away. En route, make a detour to discover two Yucatán jewels: the mythical Chichén Itzá archaeological site - declared a Wonder of the Modern World - and the yellow village of Izamal, a pueblo mágico famous for its colonial architecture and Maya remains.

MÉRIDA: Visit to Hacienda Yaxcopoil

Make the most of this day in Mérida to discover Hacienda Yaxcopoil: a jewel of architecture founded in the 17th century. Option also available: a city tour like a local with Alberto, your local guide who knows Mérida inside out, including a mezcal tasting.

MÉRIDA - BACALAR: Uxmal site

Set your sights on the sublime Bacalar Lagoon with its 7 shades of blue. En route, stop at the Uxmal archaeological site: a jewel of Maya civilisation in the Yucatán. Explore the majestic Pyramid of the Magician and the Nunnery Quadrangle, adorned with sculpted friezes. An impressive site to explore at your own pace, between history, architecture and perfectly preserved remains.

BACALAR: Free day on the shores of the Lagoon of 7 Blues

Discover Bacalar at your own pace: admire the Lagoon of Seven Colours, explore Fort San Felipe and the Museum of Piracy, swim in Cenote Azul or the Cocalitos Cenotes, then stroll through the Central Park to soak up the local atmosphere. Optional: catamaran sailing on the lagoon.

BACALAR - TULUM

Optional this morning: a kayaking session on Bacalar Lagoon! Then pick up your hire car and head for Tulum around 2.5 hours away. We recommend visiting the Punta Laguna reserve: an off-the-beaten-track spot where you can watch spider monkeys with a passionate guide.

TULUM: Cycling tour or snorkelling at Akumal
